When I joined 4SIR after two weeks of doing
fuk all in PTI school, the guys had all suffered. only two major things they
did. Trench clearing and Fighting On
Fortified Objectives ( FOFO).
when I walked in to camp that morning, they
were all out on. training their ass off. everyone was out. so I sat around
doing fuk all whole day again. till they came back at about 4pm.
ok. a bit of what happens before I go on.
4SIR is an active unit. who ever comes will
do their 2 or 2 and a half years here. As an officer, sergeant or men.
There are regulars too. they sign up of it.
they could also be officers, sergeants or men.
we come in just to do our 2 ½ years as
sergeants. just like there are officers that are there to do their remaining
time after their OCS.
the men, well, they have no choice. they
are MONO intake, which means to say after their BMT, they will come straight
here to be men. they will come into 4SIR hitting the ground. they are just men,
to make up the 6 men in the section.
every one will join the unit at different
times in their NS life. officers would join after their traning which is many
months long. so they might have only 8-10 months left.
future sergeants might join the unit and
have 2 years left.
men will join with the whole road to go.
so there will be change of officers and
maybe some sergeants during the whole “batch” of 4SIR.
the active regulars that sign on, well,
they could be storemen, section leaders, platoon sergeants and CSM`s.
ok. back to when I got in.
I was at the CO HQ when they got back. I
reported to Charlie company, according to my paper work. Alpha and Bravo was
fully booked so I got chucked to Charlie.
lol!!! so many familiar faces when they
de-bussed. fuk me many from my sispec platoon was here. almost. maybe 20 of
them. there were a few faces that I remembered that were from other companies
from sispec. hey ho no matter. good to see many people I know.
“ hey ang mor I thought u to become a PTI”
“ hey fuck face what u doing here? come to
suffer with us?”
“ hahahaha u poor fuk come to join us”
another side note.
the battalion was in the lull stage.
in between being “active”. the last batch
of men has just finished their time in active service. so we were the next
batch of people training to be sergeants in the unit.
at this moment, some of the officers were
into their last 3 months. some of the sergeant were into their last 4 months.
we joined the unit as corporals. we were not full fledged sergeants YET !
each and every unit has their own way of
doing things. the units SOP. we were to learn it all. every single thing.
the people that were gonna “ pass down the
info” were the officers and sergeants and regulars. we were STILL trainees.
we would learn all there was to learn. than
after a grand run, walk and carrying for 1 hour, we were to get our sergeant
stripes. than were were ready to lead men…… not before.
so when I saw them that day, they had just
finished clearing hills with trench’s, buildings, tunnels. shit like that.
At this moment, it was much more learning
and not so much getting shouted at. learning the units way to do things. so it
was not so bad. we were all training to be active unit sergeants.
mind you. there was not a lot of us. lets
do a count.
ill call a Section Commander = SC
x03 SC to a platoon. Section 1,2,3
x01 SC to run the machine gun team.
total of x04 SC to a platoon.
total of x03 platoons to a company = x12
fighting sergeants.
total of x04 SC to company HQ for the 84
teams.
so a total of x16 brand new sergeants were
under training.
see? told you not many of us. we were there
to learn an SOP, not to get whacked.
we had I think a total of 4 weeks to learn
before the arrival of the men.
we were to be ready to take the men.
we were to be with the men the whole time
till we all left active service.
so. back to camp. I missed FOFO and
trenching in the mud. not much of a lose hahahahahahaha. im sure ill be doing
that very soon when the men comes.
I was placed to “run” Platoon 9, Section 2.
my call sign is 33b.
and boy was I surprised with the commander
of platoon 9 section 1. Wong Kar Weng. fuk me
!! lol !!! Sispec best. ))))
We already got along back than, and now
same platoon? fuking great. I knew we were going to be good buddies. we became
just that. more later.
so we trained and learned. all the units
SOP`s.
-river crossing.
-getting on and off a helicopter.
-getting on and off some stupid boat thing
that took us across water.
-heliborne ops.
-fire movment.
-trench clearing.
-how to wear our headgear.
-ambush.
-how to walk over long distance.
fuk. Basically all we learned in sispec.
the whole lot. but this time, with lots of questions and answers from the units
commanders. they taught us well.
we ended this party with a full day of
running, walking, climbing and helping each other.
we lined up in the hall, to attention and
our OC ( officer commanding) walked, passed us our new sergeants stripes.
that’s it. we were part of the 4SIR family now. no fireworks. no fuk all. just
one massive piss up in the Non-Coms mess. boy we drank a lot.
ok. time to fuk off. come Monday, we were
to go pick up our new men from commando jetty. This is the only way to get to
the island of tekong in those days. we were to to in the 3 tonners, pick the
whole lot up, head back to camp and divide them up.
Monday. got there at 9am. lined up the
trucks down the road. gonna be a busy day getting all the men back to
camp.lucky bedok camp is pretty near that jetty.
the instructors from the island were there
to prepare the men for us to collect. they were all divided up nicely. in
platoon level.
we were to get, each platoon, total of
around 20 cattle.
we got our company’s quota. lol. herded them up the trucks and we headed back
to camp. each of them had their own look.
“ fuk, whats a unit like?”
“hmmmmm”
I guess they all had different thoughts
going through their minds.
got off the trucks in front of the company
line. whole lot of men. sorted them out into groups. we sergeants just waited.
now its up to the officers. they pick. not us.
as and when
sections were sorted out, each SC brought their men to their bunks. the
company line got less and less crowded. by lunch time, all sorted. full company
strength. all done.
so that how we trained to be sergeants in
4SIR. how we got our men. shit like
that.
next story, 4SIR !!!
